Are you in scarcity or abundance?

A couple of weeks ago I heard on the radio one of the doctors involved in developing the fat jab. He’d struggled with yo-yoing weight and one thing he said stayed with me.
That our brains are hard wired for scarcity. So in a society abundant with sugary, calorie dense food our brain, ever vigilant about the future, encourages us to pack it in while we can.
And it made me think its not just with food we experience this.
Socially we’re hard wired for scarcity too. The fear of being ostracised from a herd means we put up with stuff we really shouldn’t have to and mute ourselves so as not to stand out.
The fear of social scarcity encourages behaviours that serve only the need to belong: people pleasing, conflict aversion, lack of boundaries, and not speaking up. All of which may well maintain the sense of being part of the group but at what cost to ourselves and living a life fully realised?
There’s no jab to help with this kind of scarcity….yet. But social habits and rules show up a lot with people I work with and Coaching is a fantastic framework for someone to be with what is happening and unpick the story they’re telling themself, after which, awareness creates choice.
Are you in scarcity or abundance?
